Paint-Out Thursday May 16, Clinton Town Beach

A few changes this year - see my note at the bottom of this post!

This Thursday, we'll paint at Clinton Town Beach (free to non-residents at this time of year but not after Memorial Day), which has plenty to interest you: river, trees, marsh, islands, beach, rocks, Long Island Sound, boats, children's playground. There is a gazebo in case it rains - showers forecast...  :-( . Directions as usual at our blog https://ctsa-guilford.blogspot.com/ in the right-hand sidebar. Here are pix from last fall.

Last week at the Guilford Marina was windy and cold. I know of two people who sketched in their cars, Sandy and me! Maybe there were more of you intrepid painters that I didn't see. Here are our sketches:

We have a few changes this year. Tom Mayer and I are in the process of developing this year's list of locations and directions to them. We are adding more locations in the Old Saybrook and east area. Tom may also add an occasional weekend paint-out for those of you for whom weekdays are problematic. I may not be at all the paint-outs this year but will continue to send out reminder blog posts. Either Tom or I will take photos of paintings (or of the location) for the blog, as usual, or any of you who would like to send me photos may do so by email at veronicadotsoellatgmaildotcom. If you are new, just look for other painters, and they will surely welcome you.
Best wishes to all,
Veronica

Urban Sketching in New Haven

Hello, painters,

Did you know there is a sketchers group in New Haven? I read about it in the Daily Nutmeg blog this week at http://dailynutmeg.com/2019/02/12/urban-sketchers-new-haven-pen-pals/, under Pen Pals.

I've become interested in urban sketching, after my sister in Dublin joined the DublinSketcher group last October http://dublinsketchers.com/. Two hours sketching somewhere interesting on a Sunday afternoon followed by a gathering in a local pub or cafe. Sound like fun? This Dublin group is one of the chapters of the world wide network http://www.urbansketchers.org/.

Below is the info for the local group. I can't see their webpage, unfortunately, because I don't do Facebook, but maybe you can.

Hope your winter is going well. Happy urban-sketching website browsing!

Changes at Branford Art Center and Gallery

Yvonne Gordon Moser is moving on from ownership of the Branford Art Center for personal reasons. There will be a special showing of her work at the Center on Saturday, February 16, 2019, from 12 to 5 pm. http://www.branfordartcenterct.com/.

She says "Passing the torch is bitter sweet. I am grateful the flame still glows..."
She encourages you to support the new owners of the Center and Gallery, as do I.

Mike Eagle, Watercolorist, Reception

Jay Babina tells me that Mike Eagle is having a reception for his show at Evergreen Woods this Friday, January 18, at 4 pm. We have a lot of watercolorists in our group and Mike Eagle's work is superb.

Evergreen Woods is at 88 Notch Hill Road (Route 22), North Branford, CT 06471, phone 203-488-8000. The reception is free.

This link shows some of his work at Mystic Seaport Museum:
