Betsey, Ed, Jay, Roseanne, Polly, Candace, Cheryl, and I painted in what turned out to be gorgeous weather.  It was overcast for a short period then the clouds cleared out and left us with a clear blue sky.  Isabel visited the few who were gathered at the south end of the green but disappeared so maybe she went elsewhere to paint.  Marge and Denise walked around after their GAL meeting to visit the painters.

Roseanne sold her painting of The Chocolatier to the owner of the shop!  So our season started off with a bang!

After 1:15, most of us went to Cilantro's for tea or lunch.  We had two new painters with us and spent time getting to know them and, as usual, had plenty of laughs.

What a treat it was to be out in the sunshine painting!!  — Sally

Notice to all plein air painters

Since the Spring weather is often rainy—I see in the extended forecasts that some Thursdays in the future show rain.  I don't want us to miss the gorgeous spring days when they occur so I will continue to use email to notify people of the paint outs through May choosing some other sunny, non-rainy day, if Thursday looks like a washout.

If you didn't receive an email from me yesterday calling for a paint out on the Guilford Green, please send me your email address so I can add it to our more "flexible" paint out schedule.

Thanks so much.

Gallery Hop Fund Raiser for Veterans Art Therapy Program

April 8, 6-9 PM, Kick-Off and Silent Auction at BAC

Gallery Hop, Receptions and Raffles April 9, 10

The weekend event will begin with a kick-off opening reception at the Branford Art Center 1229 Main St. Branford,  Friday evening April 8th, 6-9 PM.  Local Veterans will show and sell their artwork that evening in a silent auction.

Passports with maps and the participating galleries locations will be available for purchase for $20.00 at any of the galleries.  Each passport comes with five chances to win a piece of art or gift valued at at-least fifty dollars.  A grand prize for those who complete the Hop by visiting each gallery over the weekend worth $200.00 will be raffled.  All proceeds will go to the “Giant Steps” Art therapy program at the West Haven Veterans Hospital. The Giant Steps program uses art therapy to help veterans who live with various life challenges.

The galleries involved in the Gallery Hop are The Branford Art Center of Branford, The Bird Nest Gallery and Salon Suites of Guilford,  Maple and Main Art Gallery of Chester, Cindy Stevens Fine Arts of Clinton, and the Clinton Art Gallery.   These are all North of the Q bridge. South of the Q bridge the participating galleries are Artfish42 in Milford, the Firehouse Gallery of Milford, the Davis Gallery of Orange, and the E Street Gallery of Derby.

Sally Brown will be the featured artist for the month of April and will also have her opening that Friday night.  One of her paintings will be available in a silent auction with proceeds going to the Giant Steps Program.  Two of Yvonne Gordon-Moser's paintings will be prizes for the raffles at BAC.  At Clinton Art Gallery, a painting by Jan Blencowe or Ron Olansen will be the raffle prizes.

We are hoping to raise community awareness for this program as well as raise money to augment the program at the VA Hospital.
