Show Calendar Updates

Just a few corrections or updates for the show schedule and calendar...

Final day of the New Haven Paint and Clay exhibit is April 13, as on the calendar I sent out and not the 18th as on the accompanying schedule sheet that listed all the shows.

Clinton Member Show receives at the newly renovated Community Center on Route 1 on Monday, April 21 from 1-4PM. Take down is May 27.

The opening reception for the "Scenes from Riverside Park" exhibit in New London (artwork from the Down by the Riverside Festival) will be held on October 18. This show typically hangs for about a month from the opening. More details from the Riverside events will become available over the summer.

If you are using the show schedule and calendar, please insert these corrections.

And in case you are interested but were not paying attention, the American Watercolor Society International Exhibit at the Salamagundi Club, 47 5th Avenue, New York City, opens on Tuesday and runs through April 20th.The galleries are open daily from 1-5 PM.

It's still too soon to know whether Thursday will have weather conditions acceptable for painting out. Stay tuned.

Pushing the Season?

Greetings to All,

OK, is anyone ready to push the season? Thursday was looking not so hot, but now they're saying partly cloudy and mid-40's, with a modest breeze from WSW. If you want to go out on Thursday, send me a quick email. If you have a preference for where, please indicate that, keeping in mind that we will want to be in the sun (when it's out) but not in the breeze. Since I'm still feeling kind of iffy about it, I'm going to look for a quorum of three. I'll reply to all intrepid painters directly by email.

About two weeks ago, I was surprised to hear from Patty that Bob VanM, who had been uncharacteristically absent from winter studio sessions, was going in for a heart valve replacement.  That now has happened, and he is at home, repairing, feeling strong, and looking forward to getting back to painting. I know you will join me in wishing him a speedy recovery.

Bob has a nice winter scene painting at the GAL member show in the Guilford Library, along with lots of other great art. It's a really nice show that will be in place through March 30.

Even if we don't paint this week, the weather has to break soon, doesn't it? See you whenever...

Another Opportunity to Think Bigger

I was intrigued by this call for entries that appeared this week in the New Haven Arts Council e-newsletter. I wish I had something available to enter. Maybe you do...

NATIONAL CALL FOR ENTRIES
Brooklyn, New York
Deadline: March 10, 2014

Exhibit Dates: April 26 - June 1, 2014
Wide Open 5 Art Show
Sponsor: Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition
Venue: 499 Van Brunt St, Brooklyn, NY
Awards: $3,000
Juror: Paulina Pochoba of MOMA
Eligibility: The broad theme of "Wide Open 5" encompasses all the possibilities of knowledge and freedom and love - wide open spaces...arms wide open...eyes wide open - but as with all things, there is the inevitable opposite - wide open to attack...corruption...failure. What kind of fantasy is this? What does it really indicate? This juried show looks to explore this idea of "wide open" in all the hidden niches of our collective psyche.

Ours is a truly unique gallery - a massive Civil War-era warehouse on the Red Hook waterfront in Brooklyn, NY. Its enormous space affords us the opportunity to exhibit really huge work, and we welcome it. We will be using 8,000 square feet for this show, and look forward to exhibiting artist's work from all around the country, work in all sizes, subjects, and media, except film (it's almost completely wide open).

This call for submission is open to all residents of the U.S. and its Territories 18 years of age or older. This is a juried exhibition for artists working in all traditional and non-traditional 2D and 3D media, including film/video when part of an installation. All artwork must be original in concept, design and execution.

Fees: $45 for 3 images up to Feb 25; $65 up to March 10
