Call to Paint Thurs July 26, Medad Stone Tavern

The Medad Stone Tavern was built in 1803 by Medad Stone who expected the Boston Post Road to be rerouted past his building. Unfortunately for him, he was wrong. So his tavern never was a tavern, but instead a private home. In 2001 it was given to the Guilford Keeping Society and is now a museum. Directions as usual at https://ctsa-guilford.blogspot.com/. The very interesting house, the barns, sometimes the horse - there is plenty to paint.

I'll be away for a couple of weeks, so remind you that the following week, August 2, the group meets at Stony Creek, and on August 9 we'll be at Brewer Bruce & Johnson Marina in Branford.

This past Thursday was gorgeous. Seven of us were at Mercy Center: John, Nancy, Pam, Veronica, Betsey, Keiko, and Jay Bright. Photos from Thursday, and a couple of the Medad Stone Tavern follow:

Paint Out at Mercy Center this week!

Our location this week, Thursday July 19, is at Mercy Center in Madison, directions as usual on the blog at https://ctsa-guilford.blogspot.com/.

I'm sorry I didn't make it to the Guilford Town Docks last week so I don't have a report.

I did make it to the Branford Art Center today to see Jay Bright's flags work. Good work, Jay! And I met Yvonne Gordon-Moser there; we talked about local art communities. She pointed me to her blog at BranfordartcenterCt.com. We agreed that anything we can do together to spread the word about art opportunities along the shoreline is a good thing. They do a lot, from therapeutic art and meditation, figure study with life model, art meet-up group, still-life group, workshops, etc. And guess what, we at CTSA do plein air painting, open to everybody, free, no obligation. So just about everything is covered in our area! And by the way, their Art Center is full of lovely art by local artists, some of whom you probably know. And amusing greeting cards by one of us, Pam Morgan (I bought some).

Hope to make it to Mercy Center this week. I particularly want to paint the greenhouse again (no, I didn't paint the version below but wish I had...). But you'll find an interesting beach, a gazebo, and peaceful grass and tree areas as well.

Jay Bright's Flags Show in Branford

Jay is one of our CTSA painters.  He says:
Please join me at the Branford Art Center Gallery @ 1229 Main St in Branford (of course!) to see six new flag paintings...or are they drawings?
Several other good artists will also be showing.  Hope you can make it!
Jay
ps Five paintings are in the window and can be seen anytime in July.

Blog Post Revision

Sorry, everyone, I copied the wrong information about last week's paint out at Chaffinch Island. I should have written what Betsey actually wrote to me:

It was a beautiful day at Chaffinch Park Thursday, with  blue skies, lofty clouds and just a slight breeze coming off the water at low tide.   Enjoying shady spots under the trees, painters present besides me were Jay & a friend, Sally, Pat Anderson, Pam & Liz Egan.   Always a great place to paint, I think. Betsey.

The destination for this week is the Guilford Town Docks.

Call to Paint at Guilford Town Docks Thurs July 12

Next paint out will be at the Marina (Guilford Town Docks) on Thursday July 12; directions as usual on the blog at https://ctsa-guilford.blogspot.com/. Here you'll find boats, harbormaster's hut, marshes, restaurant and lobster pound with umbrellas, harbor, sometimes people fishing, and the iconic Grass Island shack. Not much shade - bring a sunhat or sunshade. Below are a couple of photos from last year.
Hope to see you on Thursday,
-Veronica

I wasn't able to be there last week at Chaffinch Island Park, but Betsey tells me that there were six painters, Diana, Marlu, Tom, John, Isabel, and Betsey.

If I'm not there at a plein air painting session and you can take some photos, I'd love to have them to post for everyone to see. My email is veronicadotsoell@gmaildotcom. Thank you!

Call to Paint at Chaffinch Island Park Thurs July 5

Call to Paint at Chaffinch Island Park, Guilford, Thurs July 5

Directions as usual at the blog https://ctsa-guilford.blogspot.com/ in the right-hand column. The tide will be low.

Unfortunately it rained last week so I didn't get to paint at the Hyland House - I don't know whether any of you braved the weather.

Chaffinch is a delightful park at the mouth of the West River. So you get river views, Long Island Sound, sand and rocks, boats, marshes, lightly wooded areas, a huge rock (see below), fishermen, crabbers, picnickers.

A reminder: in early May I made a couple of changes to the year's location list. If you didn't check the list on the blog since then you may want to do it now and find these changes.

See you on Thursday.
