We have permission to paint at the Florence Griswold Museum in Old Lyme on Thursday, August 30. If you've been there before, you'll remember the lovely old house and beautiful flower gardens sloping gently down to the Lieutenant River, beloved of the American Impressionists whose art colony was hosted by Miss Florence here at the turn of the twentieth century. Directions as usual on our blog at https://ctsa-guilford.blogspot.com/. Please do park in the far lot as requested; but you can drop off your gear closer to the house before you park.
I plan to bring my lunch and stay afterwards to visit the art museum (there is an entrance charge for this unless you are a member). I hope you will join me.

Lovely day at the Henry Whitfield State Museum
Only two of us (Jane and I) were there today on this first truly gorgeous paint-out day for weeks. The sun shone, the air was dry and the temperature perfect.
I want to remind you ahead of time that next week, Thurs August 30, we will be at the Florence Griswold Museum in Old Lyme. I plan to bring my lunch and stay to visit the gallery for their exhibit Art and the New England Farm. I hope you will join me.
While I sat and painted today, I saw quite a few visitors, which reminded me that the Museum is not only interesting for itself and its history - built in 1639 by Henry Whitfield, the founder of Guilford - but also has an excellent gift shop, tourist information, and additional exhibits in the Visitor Center. You might want to put it on your list for things to do on the Shoreline with visiting family and friends.

Call to Paint, Thurs Aug 23, Henry Whitfield House
The Henry Whitfield House State Museum is the oldest stone house in New England, and the oldest house in Guilford, dating from 1639. Directions as usual at our blog, https://ctsa-guilford.blogspot.com/.
This is an interesting house to paint from any angle. There are plenty of trees providing shade in case we get more of the past few weeks' hot weather. Please drive through the parking area to the field beyond and park there.
Here's a repeat of Rosemary Baggish's message from last week. She tells me that there are still a few spots available for fall painting at Dudley Farm, Tuesday mornings from 9 to 12.30 from September 11 through November 13th; the cost will depend on how many people sign up - very likely less than $70 per person for the entire ten sessions. We've done this for several years now. The barn is used for functions such as weddings, and has everything we need - tables, good lighting, heat, etc. Of course, when the weather is good, we can paint outside as we wish. Each painter works on whatever he or she likes and we enjoy the opportunity to get together with other painters. Contact Rosemary at rosemarydotbaggish@hhchealthdotorg.
See you at the Whitfield House.

Call to Paint, and Invitation
Paint Out at Neck Road Boat Launch, Madison, Thurs Aug 16. And an invitation to join the indoor painters at Dudley Farm's Munger Barn for the fall.
Neck Road Boat Launch is in Madison, but somehow also in Guilford. Views of moored sailboats where the East River flows into the Guilford Harbor, Guilford's iconic Grass Island Shack, and a skyline of beach houses towards the Sound. The tide will be fairly low so we shouldn't have to worry about wet feet. Directions as usual at our blog http://ctsa-guilford.blogspot.com/.Rosemary Baggish tells me that there are still a few spots available for fall painting at Dudley. Last week at Brewer's Marina was delightful, with a cool breeze off the water. Betsey, Nancy, Diane, and Veronica painted, and Joan Handschumacher and Ed stopped by.
See you on Thurs for more boats and water - or silhouetted houses.
