This will be the last scheduled CTSA painting morning this year. We started the year with the Guilford Green and will finish it there as well. The forecast is for around 46 degrees and cloudy; I think our first paint-out was about the same - dress warmly!
Thank you to the people who responded to Patty's invitation - we'll see you in January.
I'll post a schedule for next year in the early spring. I wish you a productive winter and I'll see you outdoors again in the spring.

Paint indoors with us?
There are still a couple of places available to paint at the Guilford Community Center for ten weeks beginning on January 9.
Patty McGuire needs to hear from you asap if you are interested. Here is her announcement again in case you missed it. She has paid the Community Center but needs a final number of painters to calculate how much each of us will pay:
Please let me know this week if you are interested in painting at the Guilford Community Center this 2018 winter.
I have reserved The Quonnipaug Room (upstairs) for Tues. afternoons from 12:30 -3:00 pm - Jan. 9 to March 13 with March 20 being a makeup day if we have a snow day.
The rental for the room will be $875.00 for 10 weeks. (That is $125.00 less then last year.) We will divide the $875 by the number who sign up. I would appreciate it if you would let me know this week as I need to pay the Community Center in order to keep the room. Thanks, Patty
Her email is pgmcguireATcomcastDOTnet.
The room at the Community Center is bright and well equipped with chairs, long tables, and sinks.

Call to Paint Thurs Nov 16 Branford
This week, our paint-out is at the trains at Pleasant Point Road in Branford. Directions as usual on our blog at https://ctsa-guilford.blogspot.com/, right-hand column.
For various reasons I haven't been out painting yet this month. Sally tells me that a couple of Thursdays ago, painters at the dog park area at Young's Pond in Pine Orchard, Branford, included Sally, Candace, and Betsey. Here's one inspiring painting from that beautiful morning. Thanks, Sally!

CTSA Winter Indoor Painting Opportunity
Hello fellow painters.
For several years now, a sub-group of CTSA (actually, some of the original founders of the group) have painted indoors during the late fall, the winter, and the early spring.
There are some spaces available for our winter session, beginning in January. Here is Patty McGuire's announcement:

Last week at Olmsted Outlook was glorious with brilliant colors. The tide was coming in, so the river rose while we were there. Ducks and geese paraded up and down and hunted for food as the water began to infiltrate the reeds. The sun was warm but the shade was chilly. Joan McP, Jane, Pam, Betsey, and Veronica enjoyed a beautiful day in a lovely spot. We will certainly return there another time.

This week we'll be at Olmsted Outlook Park in Guilford. This is a small but pretty park with lovely river and marsh views. Directions on the blog at https://ctsa-guilford.blogspot.com/ in the right-hand column as usual.

Last week at Bauer Farm Park, Betsey, Jeanne, Veronica, Gloria, Candace, and Patty painted. It was a little chillier than it has been recently, but the sun shone and warmed things up as the morning went on. A group of walkers came through. The park staff were busy preparing the park for Saturday's Fall Festival, which limited our parking options slightly. But it was just beautiful, warm fall color and sounds. Here are some paintings, finished or not:

Call to Paint, Thurs Oct 12, Bauer Farm Park
Next painting date is Thursday, October 12 at Bauer Farm Park in Madison.
Directions as usual at the blog, https://ctsa-guilford.blogspot.com/, in the right-hand column.
This is a delightful place to paint. An interesting old farmhouse, barns, pond with waterlilies, bridge, gazebo, lane, community gardens, fields, trees (fall colors this week). The current forecast is for partly cloudy weather (but, FYI, there is a covered area with picnic tables; in the past we've painted here in the rain...). Photos below.
Last week at the Branford Green, three of us painted (Ed, Betsey, and Veronica) and a couple more stopped by to chat.
See you on Thursday at Bauer Farm.

Jazz & Art by the Sea, Hyland House Museum Fundraiser
In the past few years, many of you participated in art shows held at the Hyland House Museum in Guilford, with a beautiful reception in the garden for artists and guests provided by members of the Hyland House board of directors.
The Museum https://hylandhouse.org/ is planning a fundraiser Jazz & Art by the Sea on October 29 to fund a new roof (remember the very large shed roof at the back of the house? It needs to be replaced). There will be a dinner and silent auction at the Owenego Inn in Branford featuring local and out-of-town artists. I know many of you have exhibited at the Hyland House and support their work.
If you would like to donate a painting, the organizers would be very happy and appreciative. You may contact me, veronicaDOTsoellATgmailDOTcom.
If you would like to come to the event, please visit https://hylandhouse.org/ for tickets.
Thank you so much!
-Veronica
PS, I just donated a little painting myself. It just happens to be of the Hyland House roof, the one that needs to be replaced. Won't you consider joining me?

Call to Paint, Thurs Oct 5, Branford
Note: (exchanged with last week) come to the Branford Green not Hammonassett!
Betsey and I both went to Meig's Point, Hammonassett last Thursday; it was a glorious day, but, we agreed, far too windy to paint. We could barely stand.
So this week, we'll be on the Branford Green. Directions as usual on the blog at https://ctsa-guilford.blogspot.com/, right-hand column, where you will also find the schedule for the remainder of the year.

Change of Location: Meigs Point, Hammonassett State Park!
Thursday, September 28, Change of Location!
Betsey noticed that the Branford library has its book sale this weekend and there will be tents and scarce parking on the Branford Green tomorrow. So we will change locations for painting tomorrow and meet at Meigs Point, Hammonassett State Park. Next week we will be at the Branford Green.
The weather forecast for tomorrow has improved, I'm happy to say.

Call to Paint, Thurs Sept 28, Branford Green
Directions on the blog, in the right-hand column, as usual.
Here's the only photo I could find in my files of the Branford Green (I painted the cafe a few years ago).
But you'll find streetscapes, trees, people, stores, churches, benches, etc. Plenty to paint. Weather might be iffy, I'm afraid.
Hope to see you there.
Last week on Thursday at the Dudley Farm, four of us painted on a warm, overcast and breezy day: Ed, Jay, Betsey and Veronica. We were entertained by a family of very small, noisy, and amusing children having a loud giggly conversation with the sheep. The farm was looking beautiful with a big bed of colorful zinnias and dahlias, as well as corn and squash.

Call to Paint, Thursday 21st, Dudley
Dudley Farm, Guilford, Thursday 21st September, http://www.dudleyfarm.com/farm_garden.htm
Directions as usual at https://ctsa-guilford.blogspot.com/, in the right-hand column. Fortunately, the weather should be very nice on Thursday after the possibility of a tropical storm in our area tomorrow, Tuesday. Barns, house (one of my favorite Guilford house museums), sheep, chickens in and around their coop, and oxen. There are also community gardens tucked into the woods with sunflowers just past their peak. See you there.
-Veronica
PS, I didn't get to Trolley Road last week, discouraged by that grey day, but Betsey reports that there were two painters (and several fishermen!).

Call to Paint Thurs Sept 14, Trolley Road; and Important Information
Hi, everyone,
First, an invitation: A group of painters from CTSA has been painting indoors from fall to spring each year, using rented space, usually on Tuesday mornings. There are a few spaces available this fall and we welcome new people. It is simply a time (9 am to 12.30 pm) and a place (Dudley Farm's Munger Barn) to gather and pursue our own painting projects, any medium. We are starting the ten-week session this Tuesday, September 12, but you can start next week or later if you wish. The room rental cost for the full session will be divided depending on the number signing up, but will be not more than $70 per person for the full session. If you'd like to join us, please email Rosemary Baggish as soon as possible at rosemaryDOTbaggishAThhchealthDOTorg (you know what to do with this to turn it back into a normal email address, so that internet crawlers can't detect it).
Second, a request: The Hyland House Museum https://hylandhouse.org/ is planning a fundraiser Jazz & Art by the Sea on October 29 to fund a new roof. There will be a silent auction featuring local and out-of-town artists. I know many of you have exhibited at the Hyland House and support their work. Call to paint: Thursday September 14, at Trolley Road in Guilford. Directions on our blog site at https://ctsa-guilford.blogspot.com/ in the right hand column. The schedule for the rest of the season until the end of November is in the same column.
Last week at the Clinton Town Beach, we had a glorious morning, a little windy at first but settling down later. Ed, Joan McP, Betsey, Jay, Veronica, and Gloria painted the sea or the river - this beautiful location offers many options.
See you at Trolley Road this week.

Call to Paint at Clinton Town Beach, Thurs Sept 7
Directions as usual at https://ctsa-guilford.blogspot.com/. Weather for Thursday looks good.
Last week at the Florence Griswold Museum was a delightful experience. The sun shone, a little breeze ruffled the leaves, and the sky clouded over only as we were leaving after having lunch together on the lawn under a tree. Pam, Robin, Tom, Linda, Marlu, Veronica, Nancy, and Gloria enjoyed the day. Here are some paintings, finished or not.
See you on Thursday at the beach.

Paint Out Thurs Aug 31, FloGris in Old Lyme
Call to Paint, Florence Griswold Museum, Old Lyme, Thursday August 31, 9 am to whenever, bring your lunch if you like.
Weather should be pretty good. This is a wonderful place to paint, with interesting buildings old and modern, big and small, and beautiful lawns, gardens, and the Lieutenant River, subject of many American Impressionist painters. We are privileged to have permission to paint here.
If you haven't visited the museum yet, http://florencegriswoldmuseum.org/, it is well worth your time (and admission price for the house and gallery only). There is a delightful museum shop, and a cafe.
Last week at the Henry Whitfield State Museum, we were a small group and nobody actually painted the museum building itself this time around, but the weather was beautiful and we had a very enjoyable morning. Betsey, Nancy, Veronica, and MarLu were there.
See you on Thursday at the Florence Griswold Museum; directions on the blog site as usual at http://ctsa-guilford.blogspot.com/, right-hand column. The schedule for the remaining paint-out season is also posted there now.
