Petition for John Slade Ely House

Greetings to All,

Here is a very brief history of the efforts to halt the sale of the John Slade Ely House in New Haven. If you have not already signed the petition, please follow the link and join with the 847 people who have done so as of now.

Why does this matter for shoreline artists?  This is a beautiful old venue that is the home of the New Haven Paint and Clay Club.  This is where they host their major regional annual juried show.  This is where the CT Watercolor Society holds its biennial juried show, providing artists in Southern Connecticut a more convenient way to participate in CWS juried shows. We participate in these shows, and we love how our artwork looks in this space. Not to mention the many other exhibits that use this space throughout the year which we enjoy viewing.

I don't know the details of the situation, and I can't promise that this petition ultimately will lead to SAVING the JSE for the purpose intended by Grace T. Ely. But if only in solidarity with the artists behind this petition, all it takes is to click on the link below to add your name to the list of supporters. It takes only a minute.

Thanks.

John Slade Ely House of Contemporary Art is a public space left to New Haven's many arts organizations, artists and friends by Grace T. Ely over 54 years ago. We, the undersigned demand that the sale of the John Slade Ely House, located at 51 Trumbull Street, New Haven, CT be halted until a full accounting of why its fiduciary trustee and steward, Wells Fargo Bank, is putting it on the market as early as July 31, 2015.

Jul 17, 2015 — This past Tuesday, Jeanne Criscola, Raymond Smith and Anna Bresnick, former JSEH curators, presented their concerns to Attorney Generals, Caitlin Calder and Karen Gano about the matter of Wells Fargo’s actions and their intended sale of the Ely House. They thanked them for bringing it to their attention and will be informing Attorney General George Jepsen, one of whose priorities is to protect the public interest in such matters.

PLEASE KEEP PROMOTING THE CHANGE.org petition to your friends and family. We hope to have many more signatures to deliver to the Attorney Generals office by July 30th.

THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP SO FAR!!

We have 720 signatures!

Jul 22, 2015 — If everyone who has signed got someone else to sign, we would be over 1,000 signatures and on our way to 1,500. Please take some time to do this today so we can bring more voices to the table to halt the sale of the JSEHCA!
