Notes from last week, Nov 24, 2020

Betsey sent me photos from Chaffinch Island Park in Guilford, our last formal painting session in 2020.

She says: "Clear, crisp & breezy on beautiful Chaffinch Island last Tuesday.  It was windy & the challenge was to find a sheltered spot if possible.  Eve & I followed Paul’s lead & painted in the sun at the edges of the outgoing tide where there was much less wind.   Glad to have a sailor aboard! Sandy came by for a visit & we all agreed it would be nice to paint this winter if only from our cars."

And Jay Bright sent me a couple of sketches of the Mill River with East Rock in the background.

Thank you, Betsey and Jay.

Stay well, everyone!
Veronica

Paint Out Tues & Thurs Nov 24 & 26 at Chaffinch Island Park, Guilford

This week at Chaffinch Island Park in Guilford is the last week on our calendar until next spring. Directions as usual on our blog at https://ctsa-guilford.blogspot.com/p/directions-to-venues.html. This is a beautiful spot, at the mouth of the East River. Views of the river, the marshes, the seashore, and a very unusual enormous rock!

I hope you have enjoyed painting with us this past season. It has been a relief to be able to go outside and be with our fellow painting friends and forget the pandemic for a few hours each week. Unfortunately, I cannot be there this week, but I wish you all a very happy Thanksgiving, whether virtual (as my husband and I will be with our families in New Jersey and Sweden) or in person, masks and all!

If you have paintings you'd like to send me so I can post them on this blog, I would be very happy to do so, thereby keeping our painters in touch. I'm at veronica dot soell at gmail dot com. At least one has told me he will brave the cold and paint from his car. Go Paul!

Betsey sent me photos and her report of last week's painting at Bauer Farm Park in Madison:

Cold, windy & grey at Bauer on Tuesday.    Paul, Eve, Yeni, Keiko, Jay, Pam & I, along with a visiting artist from Plein Air Painters, arrived to paint.   Paul & I were at the top of the hill where the wind was gusty & chill. People spread out so I didn’t get photos.

On Thursday, I stopped by & found Eve, Paul & Yeni painting in sunny spots along the pond.  I had errands & unfortunately didn’t have my camera.  Next week is Chaffinch & I believe that is last on the list, correct me if wrong.   All in all, I think it’s been a very good year, with  flexible schedule & more attendance.

Many thanks, Betsey!

It was a stunningly gorgeous day last week at the Madison Boat Launch on Neck Road, where the marsh grasses were bright yellow and the river deep blue. Paul, Betsey, Eve, Pam, Sandy, Keiko and Veronica painted, and some kayakers took advantage of the day.

Paint Out Tues & Thurs Nov 10 & 12 at Neck Road Boat Launch, Madison

This week we will paint at the Boat Launch. Here are views of the Neck River, and back up to the skyline full of beach houses (the dark photo below taken against the sun). Guilford's Grass Island Shack is also visible from here. Directions 0n our blog at https://ctsa-guilford.blogspot.com/p/directions-to-venues.html.

Last week at the Essex Park, on a chilly, windy, but bright and beautiful day, eight intrepid painters showed up: Eve, Cindy, Veronica, Kay, Nancy, Keiko, Betsey, and Robin. Our fellow painter Kay Brigante has two lovely paintings in the Essex Art Association's Do-Over Late Summer Open Show at http://essexartassociation.com/do-over-late-summer-open-show-. Both of her paintings are of our CTSA locations: Dudley Farm and the DEEP Headquarters.

Paint Out Tues and Thurs, Nov 3 & 5, Essex Park

This week we'll be at Essex Park, in the center of Essex. Directions as usual on our blog at https://ctsa-guilford.blogspot.com/p/directions-to-venues.html. Views of the river, the gazebo, and the main street.

Last week we had at least ten painters at Meig's Point, Hammonasset, where there are pond and beach views: Nancy, Jane, Veronica, Patty, Beverly, Betsey, Paul, Jay Bright, Eve, and Sally. The day started out cloudy and dark but with amazingly patterned skies. After an hour, the sun broke through adding even more dimension.

It has been suggested that, when a painting isn't finished when photos are being taken, anyone who would like to send in their finished painting later, could do so for the following week's blog post. Please send to me veronica dot soell at gmail dot com by Friday or Saturday. Thanks!
