Correction on Directions to Parmelee Farm

Sorry. I had made adjustments to the directions yesterday, but the cut and paste failed, and I neglected to check it.  Here is my slightly better effort to provide directions. If you're not following the directions from Guilford, you might have to use your GPS (never a bad idea) or check out directions online. These directions now also are posted under the blog's Directions Page.

Just in case you have problems, here's my cell #:  203-641-7427.

PARMELEE FARM, 465 Higganum Road (CT-81), Killingworth

Directions are from Guilford. If your starting point is east of Route 79 in Madison, you probably want to head for Rte. 81 in Clinton (Exit 63 from I-95), or if you are further east, it might be better to head up Rte. 9 to Chester and then down Rte. 148 to the intersection of Rte. 81.

From Guilford, head north on I-95, and take Exit 61. Turn left (north) on Rte. 79. After 1.1 mi, turn right (northeast) onto ?Green Hill Road.  Go 4.3 mi, and turn left onto Rte. 81.  After 0.4 mi, at the traffic circle, take the second exit, and stay on Rte. 81-N.  In 2.1 mi, the entrance will be on your right, just north of the entrance to the Haddam-Killingworth Middle School, and just south of Rte. 143/Rte. 81 intersection.

Please park in the large parking area, and do not take your vehicle further onto the property.

Call to Paint -- Thursday, 2 April 2015 -- 10 AM

Greetings to All,

And now, the time has come. No more cowering in the house and hiding in the studio. It's time to embrace the great outdoors, and find that vision that we've been working so hard to put on paper.

Thursday's forecast calls for 50 degrees, partly cloudy, and a robust southerly breeze of 14 mph. When I was chatting with Sally about painting, and thinking about selecting a place out of the wind, she suggested Parmelee Farm in Killingworth, which she said is a site that Jay had found. Check out their website for some images of the site. When I emailed them, they were very welcoming. Although we will not have restrooms available, we will be there only for about two hours, so that should not be a problem. For longer stays, upon request, they will have someone come to open the restrooms.

I've posted the time for 10 AM, although I will hope to get there earlier, as I will be heading off to a noontime luncheon in Branford.

Directions below.

I hope to see you there.

Mysterious Messages

Greetings to All,

Yes, it is that time of year, when we're all wondering when we will commence our 2015 season of painting out in the great outdoors. But we're not quite there yet, and I need to apologize for confusing you. Two days ago, I was working with a friend over the telephone, trying to demonstrate how to do something on a blog. I posted a simple "testing", thinking I would take it down immediately, and no one would know the difference. But I had not paid attention to the time of day, and the blog feed got picked up before I could take the message down.

Today, Wednesday, in my blog feed, I received an old message from 2014. I'm not sure what provoked that pick-up, since I had not even viewed that message and was not working on the blog at the time of today's sending. You could just delete those two messages, and we will hope that that will be the end of it. If it should persist, I will investigate further to see if I have inadvertently done something to reset the blog's clock.

Again, my apologies.

For 2015, our outings will continue with Thursday mornings. As soon as we get a Thursday that looks promising, we'll get out there. I hope to see you soon

Correction - IMAGES Reception Time

Ooops. The correct time of the IMAGES reception on Sunday is 3 to 5 PM. So if you wanted to get to both New Haven Paint and Clay and IMAGES, it's a bit easier.

SHOWS OPENING THIS WEEKEND

The IMAGES 2015 state-wide photography exhibit has been hung at Guilford Art Center. The forecast snowstorm has caused the postponement of the reception and photo auction originally scheduled for tonight, but the awards reception still is on for this Sunday, 22 March, from 2 to 4 PM. This show always delivers, so I expect this year's installation will not disappoint, as it will exhibit just 98 of the nearly 700 images submitted. ... No, none of mine made the cut this year, so I'm already thinking ahead, but I'm planning on being thoroughly entertained by those that did.

The other big regional show scheduled to open on Sunday is the 114th Annual Juried Exhibition of New Haven Paint and Clay Club at John Slade Ely House, 51 Trumbull Street, New Haven. That reception also runs from 2 to 4 PM, so take your pick, or save one for another day.

Helpers Needed by Shoreline Arts for IMAGES Exhibition

Greetings to All,

Shoreline Arts Alliance receives next weekend for IMAGES - the statewide photography exhibition which receives upwards of 800 entries from around the state. They are short on helpers for next Saturday, March 14, from 10 AM to 1 PM. I am helping on Sunday, instead, as I have a meeting for another volunteer project on Saturday morning.

If you can help with the Saturday receiving at Guilford Art Center, please contact Diane Thouin - athouin@snet.net.  I know they would be very grateful.
