IMAGES 2016 Reception This Sunday, April 3 at GUILFORD ART CENTER
Greetings to All from Joan H,
The re-scheduled awards reception for IMAGES 2016 will be held this Sunday, from 3-5 PM. This is the Shoreline Arts Alliance's 35th Annual Connecticut Photography Competition & Exhibition. With not a painting in the house (except perhaps photographs of paintings), there's still a lot of good ART to be viewed, and this show is worth the visit, as always, even without the excellent banquet of refreshments that usually may be found at this reception.
I am honored to have two small photo triptychs in the show and to receive one of seven Honorable Mentions. Four $500 First Honors awards went to Christopher Beauchamp (West Haven), Michael Vaile Garner (Middletown), Nicole Croce (Trumbull), and Ellen Hoverkamp (West Haven), and the special Ann Christensen Award (for a photographer "whose work makes a lasting impression" went to Sandra Hale of Windham.
If you're not already suffering from Reception Overload, come on out on Sunday and enjoy this fine exhibition, great food, and good company.
Perhaps I'll see you there. But if you can't make the reception, the show will be in place until April 9 at GAC - open from Noon - 4 PM daily, to 7 PM on Thursdays. After that time, the show will pack up and much of it will go to CT Hospice, where it may be viewed from April 14 - May 19.

Shoreline Greenway Trail Plein Air Event THIS Saturday, April 2, 9-12.
Reminder for this Saturday’s Plein Air Event.
Our plein air group, known as Connecticut Shoreline Artists (CTSA a.k.a., the Thursday group) and Madison Art Society plein air group (a.k.a, the Wednesday group), and other artists will be participating in a large plein air event at the Hammonassett section of the Shoreline Greenway Trail on Saturday morning, April 2, from 9 - 12. This event is being sponsored by the Madison volunteers of the Shoreline Greenway Trail.
The event is widely advertised and filled with trail walkers who love to stop and talk and look at your paintings. This year there might be an option for a show later on at Friends & Co for these plein air paintings.
As the park isn't officially open in April, we can park at the campground or at the large field east of the park entrance (used by the Friends of Hammonasset to sell Christmas trees and shrubs and flowers in season). The Trail volunteers will drive people to various access points of the trail, if needed.
The beginning of the Shoreline Greenway Trail is the boardwalk on your right before the entrance booths. There are some gorgeous marsh views before starting the boardwalk and even along the boardwalk. You can park in the campground as it’s a short walk from the visitor parking lot (take your first right after the entrance booths and then a right again into the parking lot). Beneath the pine trees on the north side of the parking lot, you will see a trodden down grassy/dirt area that leads you to the boardwalk.
Stay tuned to the blog as our Spring Paint Outs will begin soon, probably the second week of April as the weather improves.
