Call to Paint at Guilford Town Docks Thurs July 12

Next paint out will be at the Marina (Guilford Town Docks) on Thursday July 12; directions as usual on the blog at https://ctsa-guilford.blogspot.com/. Here you'll find boats, harbormaster's hut, marshes, restaurant and lobster pound with umbrellas, harbor, sometimes people fishing, and the iconic Grass Island shack. Not much shade - bring a sunhat or sunshade. Below are a couple of photos from last year.
Hope to see you on Thursday,
-Veronica

I wasn't able to be there last week at Chaffinch Island Park, but Betsey tells me that there were six painters, Diana, Marlu, Tom, John, Isabel, and Betsey.

If I'm not there at a plein air painting session and you can take some photos, I'd love to have them to post for everyone to see. My email is veronicadotsoell@gmaildotcom. Thank you!

Call to Paint at Chaffinch Island Park Thurs July 5

Call to Paint at Chaffinch Island Park, Guilford, Thurs July 5

Directions as usual at the blog https://ctsa-guilford.blogspot.com/ in the right-hand column. The tide will be low.

Unfortunately it rained last week so I didn't get to paint at the Hyland House - I don't know whether any of you braved the weather.

Chaffinch is a delightful park at the mouth of the West River. So you get river views, Long Island Sound, sand and rocks, boats, marshes, lightly wooded areas, a huge rock (see below), fishermen, crabbers, picnickers.

A reminder: in early May I made a couple of changes to the year's location list. If you didn't check the list on the blog since then you may want to do it now and find these changes.

See you on Thursday.

Paint Out on Thursday, Hyland House

This week we will be at the Hyland House Museum in Guilford, Thursday, June 28.

Probably our last opportunity to paint the magnificent old shed roof before a new one is installed soon. It is possibly the largest in New England and covered with moss and lichen. The back of the Hyland House is interesting to paint - I've done it several times and look forward to this year's version. The house will not be open to visitors that day so the driveway is available for parking as well as street parking opposite. Directions as usual on the blog at https://ctsa-guilford.blogspot.com/.

Last week at Chatfield Hollow, I found only Tom painting happily away even though the park was busy with walkers, families on the beach, and many dogs with owners. Where were you all? Hope to see you this Thursday!

Chatfield Hollow State Park, Killingworth, Thurs June 21

Directions as usual at https://ctsa-guilford.blogspot.com/. We haven't painted there for a while but it is a lovely spot. There is no entry fee during the week. Here are a couple of photos:

Last week three of us (Betsey, John, Veronica) painted at the Thomas Griswold House on a beautiful morning.
See you at Chatfield Hollow.

Paint Out on Thurs June 7 at Bauer Farm

This Thursday, June 7, at Bauer Park Farm in Madison, directions as usual on our blog at https://ctsa-guilford.blogspot.com/. A lake, a bridge, meadows, a much-painted farmhouse, allotments, we'll find plenty of subjects.

Weather should be mild, partly cloudy. I just got back from Ireland and England where, to my surprise, it was much warmer than here. Especially in Ireland where the sun shone for all four days I was there, much to everyone's amazement and delight.
See you at Bauer Farm Park.

Next two weeks locations; photos from today

Hi, everyone,

I'll be away for a few days so will remind you now of the upcoming paint out locations and dates. Location list (note that a few changes from the earliest list I posted this year are in red) and directions are on the blog at http://ctsa-guilford.blogspot.com/ as usual.

Next week, Thursday May 31, Trolley Road, Guilford.
The following week, Thursday June 7, Bauer Farm Park.

Today's paint out at the Madison Surf Club was glorious. The weather couldn't have been better and this location is full of interesting subjects (but is only open to non-residents out of season unless you want to pay $25 per day!). I didn't count the number of painters, but including our CTSA painters and Jay Babina's Madison group, there were certainly a dozen or more (several painters paint with both groups). Below are some photos of the painters, their work, or their set-ups. The last photo shows a painter who painted another painter...

See you when I return.

Paint Out at Madison Surf Club, Thurs May 24

Hello, everyone,

Let's hope for better weather when we paint at the Madison Surf Club on Thursday. Directions as usual at our blog, http://ctsa-guilford.blogspot.com/. Jay Babina's Madison Art Society group will be painting with us. He has some words of wisdom for us all:

Plein air is about doing not achieving. You don't achieve Yoga, you do yoga and you play Golf and Tennis and don't achieve Golf or Tennis.  Painting outside has to do with the outside and not just about creating a trophy painting. It also has to do with companionship of like-minded people. I think even abstract painters can get inspiration from the outside and go beyond the literal.

See you then.
