Bauer Farm Aug 13

Nine painters at beautiful Bauer Farm today:  Pat A, Julia, Tom, Tina, Joan M, George, Judy, Ed & Betsey.  Some stayed for lunch.  (Information and photo provided by Betsey.)

Looks like it was a lovely day at Bauer Farm.  Thank you, Betsey.

Next week's paint out - Aug 20

Medad Tavern in Guilford will be our venue next week.  Medad Tavern is an historic site in Guilford with old barns and an old farmhouse.  Much to be appreciated inside (bathrooms) and out.  We have permission but need to be respectful in our parking as they do not have much room due to the activity of the community garden.  We can't block the gate to the garden and only park on the outside of the gate to the garden.  There's only room for 10 to maybe 15 cars.
-Sally

Directions to Medad Tavern

From I-95, take Exit 57 (US Rte. 1, Boston Post Road). Turn east (right if you are coming from New Haven and left if you are coming from Saybrook) on Rte. 1, and proceed 1 mile. Turn right (south) on Three Mile Course, which is the 2nd right after Bishops Orchard. Proceed 0.2 mile, to a four-way intersection, where the road jogs slightly to the right. Stay on Three Mile Course which is along the school yard. You go past a red barn on the right and Medad Stone Tavern is on your right about 300 yards. The driveway entry is just past the house, an abrupt right up an incline.   Again, don't block the garden entrance in the back and please squeeze in to allow parking for others, since there are limited parking spots.

Call to Paint Bauer Farm Thursday Aug 13

Bauer Farm is our destination for Thursday with plenty of subjects to paint: barns, old farmhouse, gardens, ponds, wooden covered walkway between the ponds.

There is a large pavilion between the barns and the ponds with many picnic tables underneath.   We'll meet there for the wrap-up.  Bring your lunch if you wish.

--Sally

Directions to Bauer Farm, 261 Copse Road, Madison:

Bauer (Farm) Park is opposite the intersection of Copse Road and Hunter's Trail.
From I-95 take exit 61. Turn north on Rte 79. After about 500 feet, turn left (west) on Hunters Trail, drive for ½ mile to the intersection with Copse Road. The Farmhouse will be diagonally across from you. The entrance driveway is right next to the farmhouse.

Stony Creek August 6

We had a good turnout with 16 artists (Jane, Sharon, Ed, Rich, Jay Bright, Jay, Veronica, Joan McP, Denise, Anne, Betsey, Tom, Bob, Patty, Judy, and me).  Jay Bright had to leave early. Gayle came by and visited.

The weather could not have been better.  Incredibly cool breeze off the water that was chilling to those of us painting in the gazebo.   After the wrap up, many of us ate at Stony Creek Pizza.

Announcements:
Opening Reception for the Stony Creek show at the Willoughby Wallace Library is Sunday, August 9, 4-6 PM.

Opening Reception for a Watercolor Paintings Show at the Scranton Library is Tuesday, Sept 8, 5-7 PM.  The participating artists belong to a group of outstanding watercolorists who have been painting  for many years with Joan McPherson at the Memorial Town Hall in Madison during the fall, winter, and spring.

I missed Sharon in the group shot but managed to get a photo of her and her painting before she left.  Many paintings remained works in progress at noon but everyone was glad to be out painting and enjoying the group camaraderie.  (I hope I didn't miss a photo of any of the paintings.)

Next Thursday's paint out is at Bauer Farm in Madison. - Sally

Call to Paint Stony Creek August 6

The extended forecast for Thursday is rain, drizzle and 72 degrees.  If it's only drizzle, that won't stop me.  There's two great gazebos to paint beneath.  Plus a little drizzle and even a bit of spotty rain will provide a great mood for our paintings.   I hope some of you are equally inspired by this forecast or at least not uninspired.  However, if it is a downpour, well, that's a different ballgame, isn't it?

Let's meet at the beach gazebo for wrap up and head over to Stony Creek Pizza for lunch.  -Sally

Directions to Stony Creek waterfront:

Heading north/east on I-95, take Exit 56. Turn right (south) onto Leete's Island Road.
Heading south/west on I-95, take Exit 56. Turn left onto E. Industrial Road. After 0.3 mi., at the traffic light, turn left again (south) onto Leete's Island Road.

On Leete's Island Road, go 1.6 mi to a stop sign at Rte 146. Stony Creek Packaage Store will be in front of you. Cross Rte 146 diagonally to Thimble Island Road, going between the package store and a shop called Taken for Granite. Go about 0.4 mile, passing under a railroad bridge. Continue bearing left at a fork, past Stony Creek Pizza on the left.  There are two gazebos for shade.  One is right on the beach. The other is at the end of this road (bearing right at the fork) for painting boats and water taxis and other views of the Thimbles.
